Remembrance Day Gathering
We gather around this time each year on Remembrance Day,
Spending time in an old log cabin a friend built along the way.
The crew that comes here each year will sit and have a beer with you,
And later on in the evening may even play a song or two.
Some of those of whom I speak are true family,
They've been coming here since back in the eighties.
People know them as the Calhoun's, they hail from Bloomfield Ridge,
The original homestead isn't far from the Holtville bridge.
With the passing of time, most have moved away,
But now you know that once a year, they gather for Remembrance Day.
Well I told you a bit about the Calhoun's now lets talk about their friends,
They show up at least once each year to do it all over again.
They know they have to do their share the minute they walk in.
They may cook a meal, wash some dishes or fill up the wood bin.
They're not expected to be experts just do what they can do,
And be prepared to take a ribbing from the entire crew.
Well the friends that I speak about come from all around,
And the one thing they have in common is the bonding they have found.
With each year we all get older and time keeps moving along ,
So let’s pray our Remembrance Day gathering can continue on.
Yes, I hope that next year we can still share in this song.
