Well I left my island home to find my freedom and my fortune way to soon

For I heard about Alberta so I set out for my share of that gold

And I suppose I found the money

but those bright lights of the city can’t beat the salt air rooms

or ocean breezes in September or momma’s kitchen on a Sunday afternoon

So I’m leaving Alberta I’ll find my way to Nova Scotia

I’ll drop down to see the Bluenose in Lunenburg

I’ll keep east to Cape Breton where I’ll catch that long tall ferry

Back to Newfoundland the island of my birth

Well I heard my daddy hurt his back and I suppose that he could use a hand

I’m young enough to make a difference and heaven knows

I surely love that man

And mommas not her self these days and twice last month she called me uncle Stan

So I believe my notice is I’m heading home, home to Newfoundland

And we’ll walk down to the park and for the first time in years I’ll be alive
